The Stranger

As an avid music lover, I sat listening to the band when I noticed him as he walked through the crowd. I sat mesmerized by the way he carried his height, it was the way he held his shoulders back and his head high. I couldn’t help but stare as he mingled and talked with others. I tried hard to focus on the band but found myself stealing glances at this tall mysterious yet good-looking stranger. Our eyes connected during one of my many glances and he smiled, his smile lit up his facial structure bringing out a luring, mysterious gleam in his eyes. He signaled toward the dance floor never once taking his eyes from mine.

The band began playing a song that I had requested thus leading to a chain reaction of emotions racing through me, like a strike of lightning reaching down from within us both extending outward that when our hands touched I could feel his shutter as he led me to the dance floor. He pulled me into his arms in one sweeping motion leaving me breathless and dizzy, was it the rhythm of the music or his body that sent electric vibes running through me? It was like waves crashing on the seashore, as if only the two of us existed in this one moment in time. Gently swaying to the music I could feel the way his hands lay on my back, leaving me wanting to stay awhile in his arms, as if he could feel my need he pulled me closer to him.

I imagined his silhouette against the moonlit sky and found myself listening to every word he spoke. There was something with us, lurking just beneath the surface. I could hear the silent words he spoke by the beat of his heart and his hesitations, a secret only he knew of. Sensing me reading him, he paused and looked into my eyes, I looked on as he pulled the cloak over himself and along with it the mystery he held within him. I could feel my body urging me to kiss him yet I knew to hold back. As the song came to an end breaking away from him was difficult; I could still feel his hands on my back long after the dance.

Sitting at a table together our conversation led us on into the night. Sharing information, thoughts and ideas to someone looking on it would appear we had always known one another. Sometime on, in the middle of my answer to a question he had asked, he leaned over and kissed me, without any words, he answered the one question that had been lingering there between us. The night was drawing to a close, my mind raced with thoughts, should I or shouldn’t I?

There was something in the way he held me, his unspoken words. It was his silence within that gave me my answer. Saying my good byes he walked away only pausing a second to look back, he smiled, I accepted and he slipped away into the night.

A mysterious stranger, a moment in time, it was a circumstantial connection but a memory for a lifetime.
